2027 Kawasaki Ninja 650 gets major upgrades, including a new Showa fork, radial brakes, updated TFT display and more. Check what has changed.

2027 Kawasaki Ninja 650 Unveiled With Showa USD Fork, Radial Brakes and New TFT

Kawasaki has officially unveiled the 2027 Ninja 650, equipping the popular middleweight sportbike with high-spec chassis upgrades, including a 37mm Showa SFF-BP upside-down front fork, four-piston radial-mounted brake calipers, and a redesigned 4.3-inch TFT instrument cluster. These targeted enhancements address key areas where the outgoing model lagged behind modern competitors, providing sharper front-end feel, superior braking modulation, and expanded smartphone connectivity through the Rideology app.

Major Front-End Suspension Upgrade

The most significant technical change on the 2027 Kawasaki Ninja 650 is found in its front suspension setup. Replacing the outgoing model's conventional 41mm telescopic front fork, the new motorcycle features a 37mm Showa SFF-BP (Separate Function Fork-Big Piston) upside-down (USD) unit.

The Big Piston construction utilizes a larger internal piston area, which allows for lower damping pressure and smoother fork stroke movement. This translates to significantly enhanced stability, precise feedback, and reduced dive during aggressive braking and corner entry. To complement the stiffer, more performance-oriented front suspension, Kawasaki engineers also retuned the rear monoshock with a higher spring rate to balance overall vehicle dynamics. A restyled, wider front mudguard has been added to accommodate and protect the inverted fork tubes.

Upgraded Braking Hardware for Superior Control

Alongside the upgraded suspension, the 2027 Ninja 650 receives a major overhaul in stopping power. While retaining twin 300mm petal-style front discs, Kawasaki has done away with the old axial-mounted two-piston calipers in favor of opposed four-piston radial-mount calipers.

Radial-mounted calipers provide higher torsional rigidity under hard deceleration, ensuring vastly improved lever feel, increased initial bite, and more linear braking modulation. This hardware boost delivers greater rider confidence during spirited twisty-road carving as well as emergency braking scenarios. Dual-channel ABS remains standard, backed by Kawasaki's two-mode Traction Control System (KTRC).

Redesigned TFT Dashboard and Expanded Tech

In the cockpit, the 2027 model retains its 4.3-inch color TFT display but introduces an updated, high-contrast visual layout for improved readability across varying light conditions.

The updated software now expands functions within RIDEOLOGY THE APP, adding turn-by-turn navigation overlay capabilities and voice-command feature support (market-dependent). Furthermore, for the very first time on the Ninja 650 platform, Kawasaki is offering an optional official Kawasaki Quick Shifter (KQS) as a genuine accessory, allowing riders to make seamless, clutchless upshifts under acceleration.

Proven Parallel-Twin Engine and Market Availability

Underneath the upgraded chassis hardware, the core powertrain remains unchanged. The 2027 Ninja 650 continues to be driven by Kawasaki’s proven 649cc liquid-cooled parallel-twin engine, generating 68 hp and 64 Nm of torque, mated to a 6-speed gearbox with an assist-and-slipper clutch. The lightweight steel trellis frame (weighing just 15 kg) and approachable 785mm seat height are retained, ensuring the motorcycle maintains its balance of everyday usability and sporty performance.

Offered in new color schemes including Matte Grey and Lime Green, the 2027 Kawasaki Ninja 650 is scheduled to arrive in international showrooms starting in late 2026, with an Indian rollout expected shortly thereafter.
