By Abhijeet Mandal · 4 Oct 2026

The DP World India Championship will take place from October 15 to 18, 2026, at the Delhi Golf Club featuring a $4 million prize fund and several major winners.

The highly anticipated **DP World India Championship** is confirmed to occur from **October 15 to 18, 2026**, at the **Delhi Golf Club** in New Delhi, India. This tournament, with a substantial prize fund of **$4 million**, was launched in 2025 and is co-sanctioned by the **DP World Professional Golf Tour of India**. Both Rory McIlroy’s tournament schedule and the official DP World Tour event page validate the event's details including dates and venue [1].

While the event is generating excitement, some confusion has arisen from the framing of its headline regarding the notable players participating. Official materials from **DP World Tour** confirm that **Rory McIlroy** and **Aaron Rai** are among the tournament’s key players; however, they describe Rai as a **Major champion** due to his victory at the **2026 PGA Championship**. The field will also include established major winners such as **Shane Lowry**, **Justin Rose**, **Bubba Watson**, and **Patrick Reed** [2].

There has been some mischaracterization in how many Major champions are expected to be present. Although **Ryan Fox** is labeled a **2026 Open champion**, he is not classified as a Major champion under the same criteria, which led to the misleading terminology of 'three Major champions' in the headlines. The phrasing around Fox's status could be interpreted as unclear, as it conflates Open victories with Major titles unequivocally [2].

In recent developments, the DP World Tour has heightened interest in the event by announcing that Aaron Rai is the latest Major champion to join the India Championship field. Tickets for the event are now available for prospective attendees. This championship serves as the **eighth of nine Back 9 events** within the **2026 Race to Dubai**, further emphasizing its significance on the global golfing calendar [3].

Additionally, the context surrounding the event is noteworthy for domestic players as well. The **PGTI**, or **Professional Golf Tour of India**, has announced that the champion for their **2026 PGTI Order of Merit** will be determined after the DP World India Championship. This change positions the Delhi event as the season finale for the domestic tour, enhancing its importance for Indian golfers [4].

An attributed sentiment from **Amandeep Johl**, noted in recent Indian press coverage, reflects excitement about having multiple Major winners participating in India. While the specific wording of his statements could not be verified from official transcripts, the sentiment highlights a pivotal moment for the sport in the country. His remarks underscore the significance of attracting elite players to the Indian golf scene [5].

In conclusion, the upcoming DP World India Championship is confirmed by various official sources, which provides details on the dates, location, prize fund, and prominent players participating. Still, caution is advised regarding claims surrounding Major champions, particularly concerning Ryan Fox's status, which calls for clearer communication in reports about the event [2].
