Mayawati Targets Akhilesh Yadav Over Rajya Sabha Picks, Accuses SP of Deceiving PDA

Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) supremo Mayawati launched a scathing attack on Samajwadi Party (SP) chief Akhilesh Yadav over his party’s Rajya Sabha nominations, accusing him of betraying the marginalized "PDA" communities by favoring family members and wealthy corporate figures over backward classes, Dalits, and minorities. The former Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister alleged that while the SP aggressively solicits votes in the name of PDA (Pichhde, Dalit, and Aalpashankhak), it consistently reserves real political power and legislative seats for dynastic family members and influential capitalists.

Mayawati Exposes SP's Rajya Sabha Candidate Choices

In a sharp press communication, Mayawati pointed directly to the nominations finalized by the Samajwadi Party for the upcoming Rajya Sabha elections as definitive proof of political hypocrisy. She highlighted the re-nomination of senior SP leader and national general secretary Ram Gopal Yadav—who happens to be Akhilesh Yadav’s uncle—as a textbook example of unyielding dynastic politics (parivarwad). According to the BSP chief, repeatedly sending family members to the upper house of Parliament exposes the SP's deep-rooted reluctance to empower genuine grass-root leaders from the backward or Dalit communities.

Furthering her critique, Mayawati drew attention to the SP's second nomination of corporate executive Dhanraj Parimal Nathwani, a senior corporate official associated with major industrial conglomerates. She argued that by handing over valuable legislative berths to wealthy industrialists and corporate elites, the Samajwadi Party has demonstrated its true commitment to money power rather than political representation for disadvantaged groups. She noted that giving preference to moneyed interests completely invalidates Akhilesh Yadav's public claims of championing social justice.

The "PDA Deception" and Political Opportunism

The main thrust of Mayawati’s critique targeted Akhilesh Yadav’s cornerstone political strategy: the PDA formula, designed to unite Pichhde (Backward Classes), Dalits, and Aalpashankhak (Minorities) into a consolidated voting block. Mayawati labeled the PDA narrative a mere "electoral deception" designed solely to gather votes during elections while ignoring these marginalized demographics when allocating administrative and legislative power.

She accused the SP of treating the Dalit and backward communities as passive voting bases, calling it a cruel joke that while these groups do the heavy lifting at the polling booths, parliamentary representation is funnelled exclusively to family relatives and corporate donors. Mayawati urged the public, especially the marginalized segments of Uttar Pradesh, to remain vigilant against such opportunism, warning that the Samajwadi Party repeatedly alters its political rhetoric to suit immediate electoral gains without delivering structural empowerment.

Contrast in Governance: BSP’s "Sarvjan" vs. SP’s "Parivarwad"

Drawing a contrast between the governance records of the two parties, Mayawati highlighted that the Bahujan Samaj Party has consistently operated on the core principles of "Sarvjan Hitay, Sarvjan Sukhay" (for the welfare and happiness of all sections of society). She emphasized that during the four terms the BSP formed the state government in Uttar Pradesh, power was distributed equitably among all social categories, freeing the administration from the clutches of family dominance and big capital influence.

She added that unlike the SP, which relies on casteist posturing and corporate backroom deals, the BSP remains grounded in Ambedkarite philosophy that aims for real socio-economic transformation. The BSP supremo asserted that political deceit and trickery might yield short-term strategic benefits for certain individual families, but it can never achieve genuine societal welfare or uplift the oppressed classes.

Growing Political Friction in Uttar Pradesh

Mayawati’s blistering attack reflects the escalating rivalry between Uttar Pradesh's key opposition forces as they vie for dominance over the non-BJP vote bank. With the Samajwadi Party attempting to project itself as the primary champion of backward classes and minorities, Mayawati’s tactical focus on Rajya Sabha nominations aims to destabilize SP's outreach by sowing doubts among Dalit and OBC electors.

By framing Akhilesh Yadav's candidate choices as a betrayal of the PDA mandate, the BSP leader hopes to rally traditional bases back to her party. As the political landscape in Uttar Pradesh intensifies, Mayawati's latest salvo serves notice that her party will aggressively counter any attempts by rivals to co-opt the social justice movement through symbolic politics and tokenism.
