Ayodhya: In a major administrative restructuring, the Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra Trust on Wednesday appointed decorated veteran Air Marshal (retd.) Jeetendra Mishra as its first Chief Executive Officer (CEO). The decision marks a structural shift toward professional management for the iconic shrine. Interestingly, Air Marshal Mishra (retd.) told The Hindu that he was not informed about the selection beforehand and only learned about his appointment through news reports.
How Was the First CEO Selected?
The Trust appointed a three-member search panel headed by retired Supreme Court Justice Law Permod Kohli, alongside retired Lt. Gen. Vishnukant Chaturvedi and former nuclear scientist Dr. Suresh Haware. Out of 5,585 initial applications, the committee shortlisted three highly qualified candidates before the Trust finalized Mishra's name.
Who Is Air Marshal (retd.) Jeetendra Mishra?
Mishra brings nearly 38 years of distinguished military service to the role. A former head of the Indian Air Force's Western Air Command, he played a crucial role in commanding air operations during Operation Sindoor in May 2025. His service earned him the Sarvottam Yudh Seva Medal (SYSM), one of India's highest wartime decorations. Hailing from Deoria district in Uttar Pradesh, the retired military commander is known for operational planning, strategic coordination, and institutional discipline.
Why Does This Appointment Matter?
The introduction of a professional CEO role comes in the wake of a high-profile controversy over alleged financial irregularities and donation theft, which led to multiple arrests and high-level resignations within the Trust, including that of former General Secretary Champat Rai. By installing a decorated military commander to head day-to-day operations, financial management, pilgrim logistics, and security protocols, the Trust aims to institute strict transparency, improve crowd management for millions of devotees, and rebuild public trust.
Alongside the CEO appointment, the Trust inducted three new trustees and named treasurer Govind Dev Giri as the new General Secretary. Moving forward, Mishra is expected to assume charge and implement standardized corporate-style protocols across Ayodhya’s temple operations.
