Moving away from running multiple standalone seasons across different mediums, the show's creators—Colors TV and JioHotstar—have officially shelved the Bigg Boss OTT spin-off indefinitely. Instead, the upcoming Season 20 of Bigg Boss Hindi, slated for release in late 2026, will feature a single unified broadcast streaming simultaneously on television and digital platforms.
The decision marks a strategic pivot for Viacom18 and its streaming ecosystem. Launched in 2021 during the peak of digital content consumption, Bigg Boss OTT completed three successful seasons hosted by Karan Johar, Salman Khan, and Anil Kapoor respectively. However, network executives noted that running separate web and television editions throughout the year caused audience fragmentation and brand fatigue. By consolidating resources into one main flagship edition, the network aims to maximize viewership and bring back high-octane production values under a single umbrella.
This development follows the successful conclusion of Bigg Boss 19, which wrapped up with actor Gaurav Khanna lifting the trophy alongside runner-up Farhana Bhatt. Season 19 set record viewership numbers with its "Gharwalon Ki Sarkaar" parliament-inspired theme. Host Salman Khan, who has anchored the flagship show for sixteen consecutive seasons, confirmed during the previous finale that he will return to host the unified 2026 season.
Speculation regarding potential housemates for the 2026 season has already begun across media circles. While official casting remains strictly confidential until the grand premiere, television actors, social media influencers, and regional stars are reportedly undergoing screen tests.
